Note: Attempt one question from each unit. All questions carry equal marks. Draw the first angle projection unless stated otherwise.

Unit-I
1. a) Draw a diagonal scale of R.F = 3:100 showing metres, decimetres and centimetres and to measure upto 5 metre. Show the length of 3.69 m on it. 7 Marks

1. b) A link 225 mm long swings on a pivot O from its vertical position of rest to the right through an angle of 75° and returns to its initial position at uniform velocity. During that period, a point P moving at uniform speed along the centre line of the link from a point at a distance of 25 mm from O reaches the end of the link. Draw the locus of the point P. 7 Marks

2. a) Draw a straight line AB of any length. Mark a point F 65 mm from AB. Trace the paths of a point P moving in such a way that ratio of its distance from point F to its distance from AB is 3:2. Plot 8 points. Name the curve and draw a normal and tangent at a point 50 mm from F. 7 Marks

2. b) An area covered by a triangle of base 12 cm and altitude 24 cm represents an area of 36 km2. Find the scale factor of the map. 7 Marks

Unit-II
3. A line AB is inclined at 40° to H.P. Its end A is 25 mm above H.P. and 30 mm in front of V.P. The top view of the line is 70 mm and is inclined at 30° to XY. Draw the projections of the line and determine its true length and its inclination with V.P. 14 Marks

4. The front view of a line CD measures 60 mm and makes an angle of 45° with xy. A is in H.P and V.T. of the line is 15 mm above H.P. The line in inclined at 30° to V.P. Draw the projections of AB and determine its true length and inclination with H.P. Also locate its H.T. 14 Marks

Unit-III
5. a) A regular pentagon of 30 side is resting on one of its edges on H.P. which is inclined at 45° to V.P. Its surface is inclined at 30° to H.P. Draw its projection. 7 Marks

5. b) Draw the projections of a cone of diameter of base 40 and 60 long when it is lying on a point of the base on H.P. with its axis inclined at 45° to H.P. and parallel to V.P. 7 Marks

6. A hexagonal headed rod of 25 mm diameter has its cylindrical portion 60 mm long. The side of the hexagonal head is 25 mm having a thickness of 25 mm. Draw the projection of the rod when its lying on H.P on one of its edges of the head and with axis inclined at 30° to H.P. 14 Marks

Unit-IV
7. A pentagonal prism of side of base 30 mm and axis 60 mm long rests with one of its rectangular faces on H.P. with its axis inclined at 30° to V.P. A section plane cuts the solid into two halves. Draw the projections of the solid. 14 Marks

8. A square pyramid side of base 30 mm and axis length 40 mm is resting on its base on H.P. with sides of base equally inclined to V.P. A circular hole of diameter 20 mm is drilled through the pyramid so that axis of the hole is perpendicular to V.P. and parallel to H.P. and intersecting the axis of the pyramid at 12.5 mm above the base. Draw the development of the pyramid. 14 Marks

9. A cylinder with diameter of base 60 mm and 70 mm long is resting on its base on H.P. A section plane perpendicular to V.P. and inclined at 45° to H.P. passes through the axis at a distance of 20 mm from its top end. Draw the isometric view of the truncated cylinder. 14 Marks

i) Draw the frustum of a cone. How it is different from a truncated cone?
Ans: A cone cut by a plane parallel to the base removing the apex is called frustum of the cone. whereas when it is cut by any other plane then it is called the truncated cone. Thus the frustum of the cone is a special case of the truncated cone.
j) What do you mean by intersection of surfaces and its use?
Ans: Refer article 14.1 page 14.1 of Engineering Drawing 2e - Basant Agrawal, TMH.

SECTION B (Marks: 8 each)
2. Draw the front view and top views of the given object in the indicated directions.
Ans: Refer Chapter 5 of Engineering Graphics - Basant Agrawal, TMH.

3. Draw the projections of the following points:
(i) Point A 25 mm in front of VP and 30 mm above HP.
(ii) Point B 30 mm behind VP and 25 mm below HP.

4. The length of the top view of a straight line AB parallel to VP and inclined at 45° to HP measures 60 mm. Its end A is 10 mm above HP and 25 mm in front of VP. Draw the projections and determine the true length of the line AB.

5. Draw the projection of a cube of 25 mm edge when it is resting on one of its corners of base in such a way that the base makes an angle of 45° with the HP and the vertical edges of the cube remains parallel to VP.

SECTION C (Marks: 8 each)
6. A cylinder of 40 mm diameter and 60 mm long axis is lying in such a way that its axis makes an angle of 30° to VP. It is cut by a horizontal sectional plane perpendicular to VP and at a distance of 10 mm from the axis. Draw its projections showing the sectional plan.

7. A vertical cylinder of 50 mm dia and height 70 mm standing on its base is HP is completely penetrated by a horizontal cylinder of 40 mm dia and 70 mm long such that their axes bisect each other at right angles and are parallel to VP. Draw the curves of penetration in the front view.

8. A square pyramid of base edge 25 mm and height of its axis 50 mm in resting in HP in such a manner that its base edge makes an angle of 45° with VP. Develop the surface of the pyramid.

9. Draw the isometric view of the two solids when one of them a cylinder of 30 mm diameter and 45 mm long is resting centrally on a cube of 50 mm edge.

1. a) Draw the locus of a p0int P which moves in a plane in such a way that the ratio of its distances from a fixed point F and a fixed straight line AB is always 2/3. The distance between the fixed point F and fixed straight line is 50 mm. Also draw a tangent and normal on a point on the locus at a horizontal distance of 55 mm from the fixed straight line. 20 marks

1. a) Following figure 1 shows the pictorial view of the object. Draw the sectional Front view, Top view and and left hand side view using first angle method of projection. 12 marks

1. b) Fill in the blanks: 02 marks
.......i) When the cutting plane is perpendicular to the axis and cuts all the generators of a cone, the section obtained is a CIRCLE
.......ii) When the axis of a solid is parallel to both H.P. and V.P., the SIDE view will show the true shape and size of the base. 


2. a) In an offset slider crank chain OBA as shown in Fig. 2, the crank OB is 300 mm long and the connecting rod BA is 1000 mm long. Slider A slides in a horizontal guide 150 mm below the horizontal axis from O. Draw the loci of points P and Q where the point P is a point on the connecting rod BA, 250 mm from B and the point Q is the end point of PQ, a rod attached at right angle to connecting rod AB at P. 10 marks

3. a) Two points A and B are 50mm apart. Draw the curve traced out by a point P moving in such a way that the difference between its distances from A & B is always constant and equal to 20mm.. 7 marks

3. b) A pentagonal pyramid of base edge 30 mm and height 60 mm rests on the HP such that one of its edge of base is parallel to and nearer to the VP. The pyramid is cut by a plane inclined 40ยบ to the HP at 35 mm on axis from base of the pyramid. Draw the lateral development of the truncated pyramid. 7 marks

4. a) Construct an Archimedean spiral of one and half convolutions given the greatest and shortest radii as 84 mm and the 00 mm respectively. Draw the tangent and normal at point 60 mm away from the pole. 7 marks

4. b) A semi circular thin plate of 60 mm diameter rests on H.P. on its diameter, which is inclined at 45° to V.P. and the surface is inclined at 30° to the H.P. Draw the projections of the plate. 7 marks

5. a) A straight line AB 80 mm long is inclined at 30° to the HP and at 45° to the VP. Its mid point C is in the VP and 18 mm above the HP, while its end A is in the third quadrant, and the end B is in the first quadrant. Draw its projections. 7 marks

5. b) A regular pentagon of 30mm side has one side parallel to the V.P. and making an angle of 40° with the H.P. the plane surface of the pentagon make 35° the V.P. Draw its projections. 7 marks
